This is small (43 x 21 x 13 mm) trackball unit from a laptop. It has a standard MS mouse compatible serial interface, but at TTL level. It needs two external switches to act as left and right button. It can be connected directly to a microcontroller. A MAX232, MAX233 or the like is required to connect the trackball to the serial port of a computer.
