This an USB-to-serial interface chip. The manufacturers website provides detailed information about the use of this chip, including free drivers that create virtual serial ports on windows PCs. Note: this chip is in a LQPF32 package, not a DIP!
The FT232AM is an older version of this chip.The manufacturer states that in nearly all cases the FT232BM can be used instead of an FT232AM provided that pin 5 (tied low for an FT232AM) is left unconnected.
The SET-USB consist of this chip, a X-6M 6MHz crystal, an EE-93C46B-SMD SMD EEPROM, and a CON-USB-B-H USB B connector.
