This is the CMOS version of the famous 555 chip. Very old but still very often used to make an oscillator or timer. Equivalent to TLC55, LMC555, etc.

This chip is in a DIP housing. Suitable sockets are DIP-08-L-(5) (low-cost, flat pins) or DIP-08-Q-(5) or (high-quality, round pins)..

DIP-ZIF28 is a ZIF socket that could be used with this chip.
